Permanent make-up (PMU), also called pigmentation, is applied to the first layer of skin (EPIDERMIS) and is done with a thin sterile disposable needle. The needle is fitted with a blocking system to ensure that it only penetrates just below the epidermis. This needle mechanically introduces mineral or synthetic colour pigments into the surface of the skin through the small blood vessels in milliseconds.
